Mrs. Powell is the Littlestown Athletic Trainer for all the sports all year around. Mrs. Powell is pretty well known by the players. She does a lot of work caring for all her players and making sure they get the attention they need.
Mrs. Powell gets the busiest during the fall sports season with fall having football, soccer, field hockey, volleyball, girls tennis, cross country and cheer. She also has middle school football, cheer and field hockey. Then winter comes along with both high and middle school basketball and wrestling. And spring comes along with high school having softball, baseball, track and boys tennis while middle school has soccer, volleyball and track.
Mrs. Powell has been extremely helpful to a bunch of players with injuries and more. “My top priority as an athletic trainer is to keep all my student athletes safe and healthy. I will not put them in a position to make their injury or condition worse. Sports are amazing and bring many benefits, but going back out on the field before the student athlete is ready, is never worth it,” said Mrs. Powell.
Being an Athletic Trainer means that the amount of work you do changes depending on the sports season. The sports change through the seasons so some seasons are more busy than others. “My favorite sports season would be fall or spring. The majority of the sports that I personally love are in the fall. The fall season is very hectic and by far the busiest for me, but I like to be challenged and I love how everyday is not the same. In the spring season, all games and practices happen at once, so I am able to spend more time doing treatments and rehabs with student athletes,” said Mrs. Powell.
Days always look different even in the same season. Injuries can occur at any time. “My day is different everyday depending on what events we have going on that day. A typical workday for me looks like arriving at school in the late morning/ early afternoon where I document injuries, fill up and distribute water coolers and get my room ready for when school lets out. Then the after school rush hits for about an hour. Once I have all student athletes ready for practices, home games and away games, I can get outside to cover the home events we have that day. When all the home games and practices are over, I am done for the day,” said Mrs. Powell.
